The 5th edition of the Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel National Tennis Open Championship was held at the National Tennis Center in Thimphu, Bhutan, from 24th June 2023 to 2nd July 2023. Organized by the Bhutan Tennis Federation (BTF), this prestigious tournament attracted around 60 enthusiastic players, including official expat participants from Japan, Thailand, and India.
The championship featured four exciting disciplines: Singles Women Championship, Lucky Doubles Championship, Veteran Championship, and Men's Single Championship. The event showcased a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talents, making it an engaging and highly competitive tournament.
In the Women's Singles category, Ms. Sonam Yangchen emerged victorious in a final against Ms. Gawa Selden. Sonam Yangchen's experience, exceptional skills and determination helped her secure the title and claim the Women's Singles trophy.
The Lucky Doubles category witnessed intense matches, with teams vying for the coveted title. Mr. Kelzang Thinley and Mr. Yonten Gyeltshen displayed exceptional teamwork and coordination to defeat the duo of Major Devidas Amale from IMTART, and Mr. Yoshihiro Imoto from JICA. Their victory earned them the Lucky Doubles trophy.
In the Veteran Championship, Colonel Sonam Gyeltshen showcased his experience and skill, defeating Mr. Tshering Tobgay in the final. Colonel Gyeltshen's outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned him the Veteran Championship trophy.
The Men's Singles category featured some of the best tennis players in the tournament. The defending champion, Mr. Tandin Wangchuk, demonstrated his dominance by winning the final in straight sets against Mr. Yonten Gyeltshen. With this victory, Tandin Wangchuk secured his second consecutive Men's Singles title and lifted the trophy once again.
The presentation ceremony was graced by the President of the BTF, who awarded the trophies and cash prizes to the winners. The event celebrated the achievements of the participants and highlighted the growing talent in Bhutan's tennis community.

The tournament provided a platform for players from different countries to come together and compete at the national level.
